Heather Benzenhoefer is an Associate Attorney with Waldron and Schneider.  She graduated Magna Cum Laude from South Texas College of Law Houston and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin.  Ms. Benzenhoefer’s practice focuses on estate planning, business and corporate law and adoptions.

Ms. Benzenhoefer develops personalized estate plans for her clients to achieve their goals for protecting and distributing their assets upon their death and to have their desires honored in the event of their incapacity.  She also assists her clients in forming Family Limited Partnerships, trusts, and business succession plans, when needed.

Ms. Benzenhoefer helps clients with minor children plan for the possibility of future guardianship and financial support for their children.  Additionally, she assists young adults, especially those leaving their parents’ home for the first time, with designating someone to make medical and other decisions for them in the event of their incapacity.

Ms. Benzenhoefer also works with her clients to form new business entities and maintain their existing businesses.  She drafts business documents such as contracts, buy/sell agreements, shareholder agreements, owner buyout agreements, asset and stock purchase agreements, promissory notes, warranty deeds and documents necessary to operate a business.  She also prepares and reviews employment related documents such as employment agreements, employee handbooks, confidentiality agreements, covenants not to compete, hold harmless contracts, releases of liability, and other documents customized to meet unique employment needs.

Ms. Benzenhoefer enjoys helping families grow through adoption.  She represents adoptive parents in private adoptions, agency adoptions and step-parent or other relative adoptions.  She also has experience successfully complying with the strict requirements for interstate placements set forth in the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC).

Ms. Benzenhoefer is a Child Welfare Law Specialist, Certified by the National Association of Counsel for Children.  Before she joined Waldron and Schneider, her practice focused primarily on adoptions and representing abused and neglected children as a court appointed attorney ad litem.  Ms. Benzenhoefer is also a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Practitioner and Educator.  She enjoys using her knowledge about how trauma impacts brain development and behavior to teach classes about trauma-informed caregiving for parents, teachers, foster parents and other caregivers and to teach classes about trauma-informed advocacy for attorneys.
